Opening Address for Spring Summer 2012
Welcome on behalf of all who volunteer and work within the twin outfit of this Family Life Centre.
Twenty five years ago the Diocese founded this Centre to respond to the needs of families and individuals. This response of family support is now two pronged, thanks in no small way to Statutory grant aid. The Family and Community Resource Centre, is housed in the flagship building that, like its 106 fellow Centers nationwide, responds to being accessible to all in the community.
The nationally acclaimed Counselling & Psychotherapy Centre, housed in the Church of Ireland Rectory next door, responds to more specific needs of personal growth and healing. The Counselling & Psychotherapy Centres growth shows the drive nationally to support Community –based Counselling. Denise O Dowd has been a founder member of the National Association of Community based Counselling (AACI)
Down the years some men felt excluded from this Centre due to our drawing down funding that responded to violence against women. Aware of that feedback we are determined to respond anew actively to both men and women.
The harsh climate over the last winters has done damage to the roof of the family life Centre and I appeal to you to support our efforts to repair it
Throughout this brochure you will see the thread of family and community support weaved through everything that we do here. Supported individuals and families make for stronger communities.

Mission Statment
Changing circumstance in today’s world call for a new approach to the care of families. There is an increasing awareness of the crucial issues facing contemporary marriage and family life; the pressure of modern living, unemployment, increase in addictions, isolation within communities, changes in moral and spiritual values and marginalization.
