Coping with Anxiety


Cognitive Behaviour Skills (CBT)
Dates: 6 Wednesday evenings starting February 15th
Time: 7.30pm to 9.30pm. Cost: €60 (Deposit €10)

Normal Anxiety
We all feel anxious at times in our lives. Anxiety rouses us to action, preparing us to face a new situation. This is normal anxiety.

Abnormal Anxiety
Anxiety that disorders you, does the opposite. It can keep people from coping, disrupting their daily life. The anxious feelings may be so uncomfortable that the person stops some everyday activities in order to avoid the anxiety. People may just have occasional bouts of intense anxiety that totally immobilize them.

This six week course aims to:
help participants to recognize different causes of anxiety
to identify the signs and symptoms.

Using Cognitive Behaviour Therapy skills the course will endeavor to assist you to gain more control over your life.
Participants will learn to understand how their thinking patterns contribute to their symptoms.
This course will be facilitated in a safe and confidential environment.

This course will also be run in Autumn 2012 on Monday mornings


Building Confidence and Assertiveness
Dates: Thursday Mornings Spring 2012:
February 9th,16th, 23rd,
March 1st, 8th, 15th, 2012
Time: 10am – 12 noon
Facilitator: Eleanor Shortt, Psychotherapist, MIACP, MIAHIP
Cost: €60 Deposit: €10 (non-refundable)
Venue: Counselling and Psychotherapy Centre
Duration: 6 Sessions of two-hours duration

This course offers an opportunity to look at many aspects of personal development. It aims to help participants cope confidently with the demands and complexities of life.

Areas Covered:
Core Beliefs and how they impact negatively and positively on our lives (CBT approach)
Knowing your needs/ power and powerlessness
Communication & relating to others
Identifying feelings and constructive ways of dealing with them
Being assertive rather than being aggressive or passive
Stress and relaxation
